New pictures! John took these with one of the Nikons, somewhat better quality than with our sad little digital. Though digital is handy, too. We are planning to send photos to the newspaper, they may find them as interesting as some of the other things that get printed. The new editor seems to really like nature, hunting, and fishing.

The funny things you can find in a barn.

On January 18th, a once in a lifetime night in (of all places) the dairy barn. A visitor spent the night with the cows all through the milking- a screech owl. With the digital camera, we have pictures to prove this strange event. But life can be even stranger, when John went into the haymow to put hay down for the cows the next morning- a goshawk ( I think that was the name) was upstairs and there were a few less sparrows, and some piles of feathers.

In the nearly 30 years in the "new" barn, we have never had similar guests.

Abnormal January in Wisconsin

It has been a really unusual winter here in SW Wisconsin. We have seen snow once or twice, but none of significance. No sledding, little ice skating.... we've had lots of 40-50 degree weather. So are we complaining? Kind of hard to... but you now we Wisconsinites, we just never expect the best, so inspite of all the good of such good weather, we can't dismiss that sort of intripid feeling so much a part of our make-up.
So when I post a picture, it's a brown hazy sort of Winter in Wisconsin- have to go west for a winter wonderland.
