Why I Will Never Be A Farmer

I love cows. Cows are pretty much my favorite animal, they're great pets, and extremely lovable. BUT I hate birthing. It's pretty much the most disgusting part of living on a farm. Today, I just happened to be the only other person in the barn to help my dad when this cow was supposed to calve. Now, this wasn't a cute little hair covered calf, this calf was deformed. Of course it was dead and if it had been alive when we pulled it, it wouldn't have lived for long. It had no hair, no muscled, no lips (cows have lips), and it's hooves were not like any other hooves I have ever seen. So, pretty much a sucky morning. I hope the day only gets better.
Just to make sure, I might just call up Miss Sydney Wilkins!!! Maybe we can go see "Eat Pray Love"!! But it would probably have to be with my mother and my sister. Anyway, ya'll have a nice day now! See ya!

Just LIke A Big Girl

So you know I mentioned that the farm I live on was teetering on the edge of remaining a farm? Well, today Helen, Merriam, Mary, Brent, Dad, and I all went up to La Crosse and saw a big ol' fancy lawyer about "the partnership". That's my dad, my aunt and my uncle. Anyway, I sat there and tried really hard not to let my eyes glaze over and actually understand what I was hearing for TWO HOURS!!! It was hard. BUT I actually did understand it enough to ask a perfectly reasonable question that no one else thought of! Other than that I kept my mouth shut and took amazing notes. (which if any of my family members are reading I would be happy to type up and email them) I even dressed like a big girl! In my shnazzy new dark wash jeans!! From what I gleaned from the conversation, the farm is in no danger of being taken by the government IF one of the partnership members lands in a nursing home. And it should fairly easy for my father to leave his 1/3 of the farm to his children (I and my siblings). YAY! Huge weight off everyone's shoulder's. Now we are all going to go to the movies for a celebration. See ya later!

After two years of giving up on trying to bring Brown Swiss to the county fair I have finally done it!! Last Thursday I brought my two heifers Eva and Molly to the Crawford County Fair and on Friday I showed them. Eva got a blue and Molly got a red. But I think Molly totally deserved a blue. Anyway, this is a picture of me and Eva with Molly in the background. The Fair was really great, but really hot. I can't wait for next years!

Gold Award

So lately I have been trying to get started on my girl scout gold award. This is the highest award a girl scout can earn. So it is supposedly a great honor, but I'm not too excited. It's going to be a lot of work. And it's going to be the kind of work that you don't want an award for in the end. I suppose by now you're all wondering what project I have chosen to do. I will be improving (I hope) my church's garden that gives whatever it grows to the food pantry. Right now there are not a whole lot of people to take care of it so I will put up a sign-up sheet for the wonderful people in my church to help me out. I also have plans for the garden to expand and to sell the produce from the that section at the farmer's market. Because my church is always growing (people wise) and we need to expand. Now I don't know about you but when I go to build something I usually need supplies and for supplies I need MONEY. So I plan to get my gold award, give to the food pantry, and raise money for my church all in one swoop. I'm writing this all down because I may have ambition now, but I one or two months, say, I will want to drop it all soooo badly. Maybe this will hold me to it.
